Actions & Events
ACTION ALERT: Contact Your State Representatives!
Help push literacy policy forward by urging your representatives to sign on to the co-sponsor memo, Strengthening Pennsylvania’s Structured Literacy Initiative (Act 135 of 2024), put out by Rep. Jason Ortitay & Rep. Justin Flemming.
~ What’s a co-sponsor memo? It’s the first step in the legislative process—lawmakers sign on to show support for an upcoming bill.
~ Why does it matter? The more legislators who sign on, the stronger the momentum for meaningful literacy policy!
Take action today: Call or email your representative and ask them to co-sponsor this effort (sample messaging here). If they've already signed on, send them a thank-you note and encourage them to continue championing strong literacy policy.
Host a Right to Read Film Screening in Your Community!
Are you a coalition member or organization interested in hosting a screening of The Right to Read in your district or neighborhood? Let us know! We can provide you the with the guidance and materials to host your own event!
Our goal: Create a statewide network of screenings to keep the conversation going. If you're interested, email us at info@paliteracy.org, and let’s make it happen!

Highlights include interactive breakout sessions, keynote speakers, a panel on non-traditional impacts of literacy, and a fireside chat on literacy policy’s role in social and economic equity. Help us ignite change for every child in Pennsylvania to become a proficient, lifelong reader.
Movie Screening and Legislator Reaction Panel: The Right to Read

This powerful documentary shares the stories of an activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of lifelong success: the ability to read. The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Pennsylvania legislators, who will share their reactions, insights, and perspectives on the urgent need for statewide literacy policy.
